Doing it for themselves!

Well...

That'll do, blog. That'll do.

I've decided to pack things up on Pitas. I'll be leaving IoR up until it "times out" or whatever--assuming such things are done at Pitas--but from here on out, all updates'll be happening over at my LJ. Pitas is a neat service, particularly when it comes to customization, but LJ's just got more features I really like and so forth.

And that's that, really!

Seriously! Real life!

Says the guy who hasn't updated his real-life blog since September the first. BUT HEY.

I'll probably have to announce this on the LJ too if I want anyone I haven't already told to read it, but I'll be on my way to GLORIOUS NIPPON in a couple of weeks! I head off the seventh and will be blowing everything I saved up from my current job to stay there a month. (Well, I'm thinking that probably won't completely clean me out, but hey.) And my "current job" will not be my current job anymore at that point--my last night is the this upcoming Sunday, so woohoo. (Voluntary resignation, before anyone asks! Hooray I'm free, etc.)

Yeah, I still have a real life, technically!

All sorts of big things happening at work these days. Well, two main big things, really--one, the students are back! Ah, my days of peace and quiet (sometimes painfully boring peace and quiet) have come to an end. And they did so in such a dramatic way! First night back was wild, and I swear, man, there was a full moon out Tuesday night--in the metaphorical sense, of course. Things just kept on happening. Many of them simultaneously!

Also, we've moved into new digs! ...Across the lobby from the old ones, but still. The new space is much improved (no more referring to where we dispatchers work as "the box!" It's a proper office! And it has A WINDOW! I'm very happy about the window) and we've got these huge flatscreen monitors we're using for video cameras now. ...It's actually kind of a waste, they'd be great for playing video games on.

Less thrilling has been the fact that I've been working twelve-hour shifts for the past week and a half because of student move-in. This week's raft of them has been particularly annoying since I really don't need to be there--move-in ended last week, but the idea was that we'd keep doing the twelve-hour deal for this week to help the parking department handle the huge volume of permit requests and handing-out that accompanies the start of the new year. Unfortunately, little to none of that work ever happens in the four extra hours (7 AM to 11 AM) I work, so I end up sitting around...and helping out the morning dispatchers, which is not really the reason I'm being required to stay. (Not that I mind, particularly. Makes things easier for all of us. What I mind is having to stay at all when it's really not necessary--the only reason I can see is that, well, I suppose my boss can't just say "okay you guys who'll be on during the busier times have to work 12...but you midnight guys can just go home." [Much as I wish she would.])

Fortunately, this shift is the last of it. Ugh. I always kinda doze off on the train on the way home, but man, these days have been the first time I've actually felt concerned that I might fall asleep and miss my stop.

In happier news, though, I ran into a high school friend of mine, Micah! Micah's a really nice guy--and these days, a quite sharp-dressed one! He's got an awesome look going on. We ran into each other on Metro, and since he was headed to Van Ness (only one stop before where I get off), we were able to spend a good chunk of time shooting the shit and catching up. Man, everyone's becoming adults and shit. It's weird, as he himself commented on. But somehow fun, too, in a way.
